![]() These are a type of shallow/missinformed biased critiques that you can give, as well as critiques along the lines of, just deregulate etc.Īt the same time, I think that asking someone who's not from that specific country weather that's Sweden, Germany or Spain, to exactly name the law, provision or regulation you want to change is not realistic. Those who critisise usualy say something along the line of '' Europe is notoriously racist, I have a (non white minority) friend who went there and experienced racism.''Īnd then someone who'll respond with '' well Europeans live in homogenous society, ofcourse they are racist.'' I think that both those who critisise and who critique the critisism have good points. I don't expect them to do high level statistics and comparisons. Obviously we can critique that there's possibility that author cherry picked Denmark because it maybe has the highest approval rate or something, but this is, in my view, gneral quality of journalism. The autor then goes on to provide the stats If you have 12 week ''elective'' limit, but after those 12 weeks, abortion is still available for broad set of resons, then these 2 systems are not similarily restrictive. Critique is centered around defining level of restriction purely on term limits. This is kind of the 2nd point of the article. When the initial comparison is obviously about what gestational age to allow abortions at. This is kind of the point of the article no? That European abortion laws don't have hard dates, but are rather very flexible allowing for abortion in case of broadly defined better health outcomes. ![]() Their point was that European abortions are more accessible but list almost no hard dates. This is without taking into consideration financial access. If for example Denmark had restrictive abortion access, would we then not see lower then 93% approval rate is post 12th week abortion demands? So 13 850 on average of pre 12th week abortions and 750 post 12th week abortions in 2021 (which is around 93% approval rate for post 12th week) or around 95% of abortions were pre 12th week (this compares well with data for past US data the author quotes. Of these, 37,500 pregnancies were unintended and 14,600 ended in abortion In Denmark in 2015–2019, there were a total of 88,200 pregnancies annually. In 2021, 803 pregnant people applied to get an abortion in Denmark beyond 12 weeks, and 750 were approved. In Denmark, for example, though the country has a 12-week ban on paper, it’s considered relatively feasible for residents to get approval for abortion beyond that. Lets then engage with the data the author gave us.Įven though more than 90 percent of abortions occur within the first 13 weeks

![]() The drug store specialized in cheap, affordable products at a time when consumers didn’t have very much to spend.īy the mid 1970s, Thrifty Drug Stores was the biggest chain on the west coast and its ice cream had achieved cult status among Angelenos. Of course, the company made their own line of drug store specific products as well – think, Walgreens-brand toilet paper – such as the flexible fabric band aids below. Thrifty Drug Stores grew rapidly over the following decades, and in 1940 the company began producing their own ice cream at a small factory in Hollywood where they made rocky road, concord grape-pineapple and fruit cake flavors. They’re not going to come in for a toy or something like that, but ice cream was remarkably successful and very attractive to kids, middle-age people, old people, everybody…When Rite Aid purchased Thrifty, they kept this ice cream. The idea is to get people to come into the store. The price was quite low so we didn’t make a lot of money off it, but it got people in the store to buy other things. It was very high quality and they were very proud to get awards at the L.A. They had a plant in West Hollywood and eventually moved the operation to El Monte. ![]() ![]() They did their own manufacturing and made a lot of different flavors. Raymond Borun, the son of Harry Borun and nephew of Robert, founders of the company, recalls the brother’s foray into ice cream: To get clients into the store though, the brothers needed a gimmick, and landed on ice cream. In fact, the company was originally called “Thrifty Cut-Rate Drug Stores,” which is just charming. And since they had already developed business connections that allowed them to get their products on the cheap, they could keep prices low and under-cut their competitors. Rather than fold themselves, the brothers decided to go into retail, selling directly to the consumer. And while Thrifty Drug Stores hadn’t yet dotted Los Angeles,Thrifty would soon occupy the lower floor of the building indicated above. This photograph is of Broadway, north of Sixth Street, in downtown Los Angeles, circa 1906. The pair did fairly well until the Great Depression hit, and local drug stores – their clientele – started going under. Harry Borun and his brother Robert were originally in the business of wholesaling their drugs to retailers, and started their first business, Borun Brothers, in 1919. In those days, almost all drug stores had ice cream counters – a place where you could order a sundae, soda float or have lunch while shopping, and a method for getting customers in the door.īut Thrifty actually goes back even further than 1929. Thrifty ice cream can be traced all the way back to the depression and the founding of Thrifty Drug Stores in downtown Los Angeles in 1929. Thrifty Ice Cream was certified Kosher in 1994, and continues to be produced in El Monte, California. The ice cream has won numerous gold medals at the Los Angeles County Fair (24 gold medals, as of the last count) and has followed the same recipe on many flavors for over 50 years, using real pieces of fruit and freshly baked cookies. The ice cream comes in approximately 30 flavors, including standard offerings like Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough and Cookies ‘n Cream, but also more adventurous blends like Chocolate Malted Krunch, Medieval Madness and Circus Animal Cookie. The ice cream tastes of nostalgia for many Angelenos, and is known for its superior taste and historically affordable price point. The ice cream is sold in cartons in Rite Aid pharmacies across the country and is known for its cylindrical scoops, served fresh at ice cream counters in select locations (mostly around LA). The ice cream developed a cult following in the 1930s and 40s, and continues to be sold under the Thrifty brand name, now owned by Rite Aid. Thrifty is a brand of ice cream first sold at Thrifty Drug Stores in downtown Los Angeles during the Great Depression. Collaboration and feedback were difficult to do asynchronously and a lot of time was often wasted in these meetings. This usually resulted in "review meetings" where various teams, such as product, design, and stakeholders, would gather to review the work. Collaboration & feedbackīefore the use of preview environments, developers often had to rely on screenshots and videos to showcase their work to stakeholders and other teams. This can introduce additional complexity, overhead, and security risks.Įphemeral environments, on the other hand, eliminate these issues by providing each piece of work with its own dedicated environment. The challenges and frustrations associated with using a single staging environment often lead developers to devise workarounds, such as creating their own "staging" environments. Maintaining a staging environment is always challenging, as it is difficult to keep it in sync with production. Having only a single staging server can quickly become a bottleneck for developers, as they must wait their turn to deploy to production. The goal is to empower teams to ship higher quality code at a higher velocity. Overall, preview environments provide a superior solution for modern software development teams who need to ship to production multiple times a day. Preview environments are fully automated, which saves time, costs, and resources compared to manually setting up and maintaining staging. This allows for greater collaboration and feedback, as well as improved testing due to production parity. Unlike traditional staging environments, which were typically shared by multiple teams and often led to bottlenecks and delays, preview environments are created on-demand for each developer. Modern software development teams are increasingly using preview environments, also known as ephemeral environments, to test and preview their features. ![]() While the embers of staging environments are still smoldering, like a phoenix, preview environments have risen from their ashes. ![]() With an Internet connection, a compatible browser, and the Foxit plug-in, you're only a few clicks away from turning feature-rich webpages into shareable PDF files.īut that's not all.
